Do it in the Dark - Energy Competition Fall 2008

See weekly energy data

Do It In The Dark is a month-long, campus-wide, house-bonding, Ephcard-winning, energy-saving competition starting Wednesday, October 25th, and lasting until November 22nd. In it, dorms compete with other dorms in a race to cut their energy use-- the house that reduces its wattage by the highest percent from the previous year wins fabulous prizes for each of its residents.

Not only do you have the chance to win free stuff, you also have the opportunity to make a difference outside the Purple Bubble. As issues like global warming become more urgent, it is increasingly important for us to pay attention to the little things we do that nevertheless add up on a larger scale. While lights are of course the most visible portion of this footprint, the challenge this year is to also focus on less obvious drains of energy like minifridges (by far the biggest constituent of student energy use). Plug-in devices such as cell phone chargers, laptops, printers, and hair dryers all draw electricity as well, even when they are not turned on.
