More than a collection of names and dates, or a mere chronology or time-line of events, the discipline of history involves asking complex questions about why and how people, societies, institutions, ideas, economies, and cultures have changed over time. Developing the tools with which to answer these questions gives us the perspective and many of the analytical skills we need to understand the world in which we currently live. More broadly, the discipline of history involves training in critical analysis, research, and writing skills applicable across all disciplines and in a variety of professions.
