Facilities
All students live in the CDE building or other College buildings, unless they are accompanied by family. The CDE building provides fellows with a place to learn from classmates representing more than a dozen countries annually. It is a comfortable home away from home; a serious, yet relaxed atmosphere conducive to intellectual pursuits and intercultural exchange.
Living Areas
Dormitory Rooms
Each student is assigned an individual room with a bed, bureau, desk and chair, bookcase, desk lamp, reading chair, standing lamp, and telephone. Bed linens and towels are provided for the year, as well as blankets and pillows. Rooms are vacuumed on a weekly basis by the CDE custodial staff. For students who have their own computers, each room is equipped with a data port that connects directly to the College network and the building is equipped for wireless access which requires a network card. Bathrooms
All rooms have shared bathroom facilities with no more than 7 rooms sharing one bathroom. Bathrooms are cleaned daily, Monday-Friday, by the CDE custodial staff.
Laundry
Coin operated washers and dryers are located in the basement. Students are responsible for doing their own laundry.
Dining Room
Weekday (Monday-Friday) breakfast and lunch are prepared by the CDE cook and served buffet style in a large dining room. Dinner and weekend meals are served at the other nearby campus dining halls. All CDE fellows are required to participate in the CDE Meal Plan.
Communal Kitchen
Although a full meal plan is required of fellows living in College housing, a fully equipped communal kitchen is available in the CDE building for students to prepare meals when the College dining facilties are not open. It includes storage bins, refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave and dishwasher, as well as dishes, eating utensils, pots, and pans.
Living Room
The CDE house includes a large living room equipped with a TV, VCR and DVD player, stereo with CD player and tape deck. The town's public library is next door to the CDE and loans out a wide variety of DVDs.
Recreation Room
A recreation room in the basement is equipped with a pool table, ping-pong table, darts, and a TV with VCR.
Academic Areas
Classroom
Most classes take place in the CDE classroom, which is located in the same building as the CDE dormitories and dining hall.
Computer Labs
Two rooms are equipped with at least 18 computers and two high-volume laser printers. These are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week. A student support desk is also a phone call away and open until midnight most nights. The main computer center is just a couple of blocks from the CDE building and contains extensive equipment and technical assistance. Wireless access is also available throughout the building.
