As technology evolves, the Office of Alumni Relations and Development is working to ensure that you have the tools you need to get your work as volunteers done efficiently and effectively. Select the tool you need to view the instructions and guidelines below.

E-mail Forwarding
List Servers
Online Alumni Directory
Web Pages

E-mail forwarding
As a volunteer, you can take advantage of two types of e-mail forwarding. Like all alumni, you can set up a single, personal address where your friends and colleagues know they can always reach you. Mail sent to this address will be forwarded to your e-mail provider. Visit http://alumni.ephnet.org/EmailForwarding.asp to sign up.

You also can take advantage of generic addresses created for volunteers by the Alumni Relations and Development Office. For example, class secretaries have an address comprised of their class year followed by "secretary@alumni.williams.edu" (e.g., "1979secretary@alumni.williams.edu"). E-mail sent to boston@alumni.williams.edu would go to the president of the Boston Regional Association. Mail sent to these address is automatically forwarded to whatever e-mail address you use for Williams-related work.

What you need to know: Please let the College know if you change your e-mail service provider so we can re-route your messages to your new address. Also, please abide by the following disclaimer: This e-mail forwarding service is provided free of charge. Users agree to waive and release Williams College and its agents and employees from any and all liability arriving from the use of this service.

List Servers
E-mail list servers are the most secure and effective way for alumni to share information with each other. Any message sent to one of these subscription-based e-mail groups goes directly to the e-mail addresses of all alumni who have joined it, though subscribers cannot view the personal addresses of others on the list. Visit http://alumni.ephnet.org/Listservers.asp and log in to view available list servers. If you would like to create one, please contact Rebecca Logue-Conroy at Rebecca.Logue@williams.edu.

What you need to know: Because list servers are hosted by the College to facilitate communication between classmates, please remember that they may only be used for Williams-related communications and may not be used for commercial, political or advocacy solicitations. Fund raising solicitations may not be done through list servers. Spam, including messages about viruses, should not be posted to list servers.

Web Pages
We encourage you to visit http://www.williams.edu/alumni often. From here you can access tools for volunteers, find out about events on and off campus and read the Alumni Review, among the many services offered online. If you happen to catch any errors as you look at pages pertaining to your work as a volunteer (your class Web site, for example), please let the Alumni Office know.

Some regions, classes and affinity groups have created their own Web pages, each of which is designed, maintained and hosted by a volunteer. Though they can be accessed via links from Williams-hosted pages, they are not part of the www.williams.edu site, and the College is not responsible for content appearing on these sites.

What you need to know: If you maintain one of these independent Web pages, please keep in mind that your classmates submit information expecting that it will be shared only among members of the Williams community. Anyone with an Internet search engine (Google, Yahoo, HotBot, etc.) can access your page. That includes marketers, potential employers and people who might not have the best interests of Williams alumni at heart. Therefore, please remember that personal contact information (phone numbers, e-mails, addresses, etc.), Class Notes from the Alumni Review, and information of a private nature must NOT be published on the Web UNLESS THEY ARE PASSWORD PROTECTED.
