Guidelines and Deadlines
| Early Decision | Regular Decision |
|---|---|
|
If Williams is your first-choice college, your application is due postmarked November 10, and notification will be mailed by Dec. 15th. You and your counselor must sign an agreement stating that, if accepted to Williams as an Early Decision candidate, you will withdraw any applications to other colleges and not apply further. Failure to comply could result in cancellation of your acceptance. Applicants not accepted under Early Decision will ordinarily be deferred for reconsideration under the Regular Admission plan. Student with qualifications below Williams' general admission standard, however, will receive final notification in December. |
Applications and any accompanying materials are due postmarked January 1. The Mid-Year School Report with first term grades is due no later than February 15. Decision letters are mailed the first week of April. The optional Arts Evaluation is due postmarked December 20th. More information on the Arts Evaluation can be found here. Accepted candidates must reply by May 1. Acceptances are always contingent upon students finishing the current school year in good standing. |
| Early Write Program | Deferred Admission |
|
In Februrary and March, a small number of Regular Admission candidates with superior qualifications receive early notification of acceptance. No special application is required and no response is expected of Early Write candidates until May 1. |
Once you have sent in a $200 deposit indicating your intention to matriculate, you may delay entrance for one year without reapplying. |
| Early Admission | Waiting List |
|
Williams accepts some high school juniors who are prepared for early graduation from secondary school. Early Admission applicants must show exceptional academic performance and maturity. An interview is strongly encouraged. Candidates follow all other application and acceptance procedures. |
Because we cannot project how many accepted students will enroll, we place a number of qualified applicants on a waiting list. After May 1, we may accept wait-list students; in the past four years 32, 51, 22 and 77 such candidates were offered admission. |
| Transfer Applicants | International Applicants |
|
Williams accepts a limited number of transfer students annually. Most have earned a 3.5 or better average in a liberal arts program, selecting from among the most challenging courses available. The College is particularly receptive to community college graduates and to older students who may have interrupted their education. Williams has a two-year minimum residency requirement. Transfer admission information is available beginning in September. The fall term deadline is March 15; notification is in late May. Interviews are not required. Financial aid is limited. |
International students complete the same application as U.S. students, including results of the SAT or the ACT (American College Testing Program Exam) plus two SAT Subject Tests. Students are not required to submit the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), unless they are applying from a country without access to SAT or ACT testing. |
