Summary

Thompson Chapel

Last December, President Schapiro announced that he would be moving to the presidency of Northwestern University. Read President Schapiro’s letter and the Trustees’ response.

The Board assembled a search committee, which was formally presented to the community in January. The committee met in person for the first time later that month.

In February, the Committee retained the services of a search consultant and began in earnest to solicit input from the community with an online comment form.

Members of the Committee met with groups of Williams people and local residents to answer questions about, and solicit input for, the search. (See list of outreach meetings.) These discussions led to the writing of the position prospectus.

In April, the Board of Trustees voted to designate as Interim President Bill Wagner, Dean of the Faculty, putting into place a contingency plan that will allow the Committee to continue to research and narrow the field of candidates beyond June 30.

The Search Committee will continue to keep the community informed through this website, accessible from the Williams homepage.

On Sept. 28, 2009, Greg Avis, Chair of both the Board of Trustees and of Search Committee, announced the appointment of Adam F. Falk, dean of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences at Johns Hopkins University, as the 17th President of Williams. Announcement website.
