Running Into Remarkable People:
Inspirational Stories from the Road
David Willey ’89, a Senior Vice President of Rodale and Editor-in-Chief of Runner’s World
Running means different things to different people. For some, it is a competitive sport, for others a way to blow off stress or burn off a few pounds. In its most universal sense, however, Willey believes running is about transformation and overcoming adversity. In his six years at Runner’s World, he has met amazing people who have accomplished remarkable feats and overcome life’s toughest challenges — disease, addiction, depression, and amputation — all through running. He shares their stories and promises that even non-runners will find them surprising, inspiring, and instructive.
During his tenure, Runner’s World has been nominated for seven National Magazine Awards, the industry’s highest honor. The magazine’s website, also under David’s leadership, won a National Magazine Award for General Excellence in 2008. David also serves as president of the American Society of Magazine Editors.
