Study Abroad

More than half of all Williams College students study away during their junior year. You can choose from programs in a wide range of Arabic-speaking countries, such as Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco and Oman. Through our rigorous language training and dynamic international focus, you’ll be prepared for life abroad and have a strong understanding of the Arabic-speaking world.

Arabic students at Williams have a strong record of receiving prestigious international fellowships, including several Fulbrights. The college also offers summer fellowship funding for you to further your language study or pursue a research project in locations around the world.

For more information on study abroad opportunities, visit the Global Education and Study Away website.

Earning credit

Up to four courses from approved semester or year-long study away programs may be counted toward the Arabic major or certificate. You may also be granted one credit towards the major or certificate for intensive summer language study at department-approved programs.

Abdul W. Wohabe 1959 Arabic Studies Fund

The Abdul W. Wohabe 1959 Arabic Studies Fund supports and promotes the study of the Arabic language and Arab culture in the Middle East and North Africa. It was granted by the family of Abdul Wohabe ’59 on behalf of their late father who came to Williams from Saudi Arabia in the 1950s.

The fund offers an opportunity to study Arabic or conduct research in an Arabic-speaking country during the summer or Winter Study. Funds may be used to cover the costs of the program, as well as travel and living experiences. You may also use funds for domestic programs if international travel is impossible.
